We have recently been informed by Citizens that beginning April 1, 2023, and moving forward, all Citizens Policy Holders in flood zones will require separate flood insurance. Existing renewal policies will require flood insurance by July 2023. By March of 2027, all Citizens policy holders will require flood insurance coverage. Considering the state of Florida’s ongoing insurance crisis, and the nature of recent storms, not to mention the nature of the insurance market practices, this is a significant development. Once Citizens establishes this as a required practice, other carriers are sure to follow. In the near future, this will probably become a requirement for all residents in the state of Florida seeking home insurance.
